The slug is the part of the short link after the domain: in crop.sh/diwali, the slug is diwali.
Choosing your own slug (a custom short code) is available on Starter and above. On Free, every link gets a random 7-character code and the slug field shows a lock with an Upgrade link. Custom slugs you created on a paid plan keep working if you later move to Free.
- Allowed: letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, 1–64 characters. Slugs are case-sensitive (
Diwalianddiwaliwould be different links). On shared domains such ascrop.shwe do not accept a slug that differs from an existing one only by letter case, so people cannot be confused by look-alike links. - Each slug is unique per domain.
crop.sh/salemay be taken, butgo.yourbrand.com/saleon your own domain is yours. - Leave the slug empty to get a random 7-character code (for example
crop.sh/k3Qm9zT). Random codes are never reused. - Reserved words (such as
api, help, login, admin, brand names of banks and payment apps) cannot be used oncrop.sh.
To change a slug after creation: open the link → Edit → Slug. The old slug stops working immediately. On crop.sh a custom slug is held for 30 days if the link was live for at least 24 hours or got a click: during that time only your workspace can take it back, then anyone can claim it. A slug that never went live that long and was never clicked is free at once. Random codes are never reused. On your own domain the old slug is free at once. If the link is printed on a QR code, do not change the slug; change the destination instead (see Change destination after printing).
Tips
- On
crop.sh, slugs that imitate brands, banks, government bodies or payment apps are blocked to protect visitors; use your own domain for brand names you are authorised to use. - Short, lowercase, hyphenated slugs are easiest to read aloud and type from print.
