Add a custom domain

Use your own domain, such as go.yourbrand.com or yb.in, for short links, QR codes and pages. Traffic on your domain goes straight to URLCrop's servers; it does not pass through any third-party network.

  1. Go to Domains → Add domain.
  2. Enter the hostname. We recommend a subdomain such as go.yourbrand.com or link.yourbrand.com; it leaves your main website untouched.
  3. We show the DNS record to create at your domain provider:
  • Subdomain: a CNAME record go → cname.urlcrop.com.
  • Root domain (for example yb.in with nothing in front): an A record @ → the server IP address shown in the dashboard.
  • If your DNS is hosted on Cloudflare, set the record to DNS only (grey cloud). A proxied (orange cloud) record hides your domain behind Cloudflare and stops the certificate from being issued.
  • Only if we cannot confirm the domain from that record alone, we also ask for a TXT record _urlcrop → urlcrop-verify=<token>.
  1. Add the record (see DNS records by provider), return to URLCrop and click Check DNS.
  2. When the record is found the domain becomes Verified. The HTTPS certificate is issued automatically on the first HTTPS visit to the domain after verification, usually within a minute; open https://go.yourbrand.com once in your browser to trigger it. The domain then shows Active and appears in the domain dropdown when you create links.

Tips

  • Root domains need an A record because DNS does not allow a CNAME at the root of a domain. If the server IP shown in the dashboard ever changes, we email Owners well in advance.
  • The hostname you connect is used only for short links and pages; your website on www.yourbrand.com is unaffected.
  • You must own or be authorised to use the domain. Domains with a poor security reputation may be refused.
